Founded in 1876, the Colorado Mining Association (CMA) is the oldest mining association in the United States and the unified voice of Colorado's mining industry. CMA supports its members through advocacy, regulatory engagement, education, networking, and signature industry events that bring together leaders from across the mining sector. CMA represents companies that are engaged in the exploration, production, and refining of mineral resources, as well as mining companies with national and global headquarters in Colorado, equipment manufacturers, law firms, engineering and consulting organizations, and financial institutions serving the mining industry.

Position Overview

The Colorado Mining Association is seeking a strategic, relationship-focused Events & Membership Director to lead the planning and promotion of CMA's signature events while driving member engagement, sponsorships, and marketing initiatives across the organization.

This leadership role serves as the primary owner of CMA's member experience, event strategy, sponsorship fulfillment, and marketing communications. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and working in close partnership with CMA’s board of directors and member companies, the Events & Membership Director will focus on creating exceptional member experiences, developing engaging conference programming, cultivating industry relationships, and ensuring CMA's events and communications advance the association's mission and provide lasting value to members.

The Events & Membership Director will leverage CMA’s broad membership and Colorado’s role as the mining hub of the United States to manage the Association’s events portfolio to provide member value and drive business development for members and the broader mining industry.


Key Responsibilities

EVENT STRATEGY & PROGRAMMING
  • Lead the strategic planning, promotion, and execution of CMA's signature events, including the Western Mining Summit, Annual Golf Tournament, Legislative Reception, St. Barbara's Day Lunch, and member networking events.

  • Develop and execute business development aspects of the Western Mining Summit, including networking meetings, company promotional opportunities, and social functions held in conjunction with the Summit, with a clear business development proposition for attendees.

  • Develop budgets for events including pricing, sponsorships, and revenue streams to ensure that events remain a sustaining driver of CMA’s core functions.

  • In coordination with the President & CEO, develop agendas for the Western Mining Summit, including speaker recruitment, discussion topics, and run of show.

  • Coordinate speaker outreach, preparation calls, presentation materials, and on-site speaker support.

  • Coordinate with CMA’s partners in industry, academia, and government to develop networking events and business development functions in conjunction with partner organization events.

  • Manage contractor relationships for event registration, venue logistics, vendors, food and beverage, signage, promotional materials and on-site execution.

  • Ensure every CMA event delivers an exceptional experience for attendees, sponsors, and speakers.

MEMBERSHIP & INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
  • Serve as a key relationship manager for CMA members.

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase member engagement, participation, and retention.

  • Build meaningful relationships with member companies and identify opportunities to provide additional value throughout the year.

  • Support membership recruitment and onboarding efforts.

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and committees to strengthen member involvement and industry connections.

  • Engage in meetings with current and prospective members and association partners to ensure member value, plan event engagement, and strengthen association relationships.

SPONSORSHIP & PARTNER RELATIONS
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities and annual sponsorship strategies.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with sponsors and industry partners.

  • Ensure all sponsorship benefits and deliverables are fulfilled before, during, and after events.

  • Identify opportunities to expand sponsorship participation and long-term partnerships.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
  • Lead marketing campaigns promoting events, membership, sponsorships, and industry initiatives.

  • Manage CMA's website content and event pages.

  • Oversee email marketing, newsletters, blogs, LinkedIn content, and other member communications in connection with events and member promotion.

  • Coordinate creative assets with outside marketing and design partners.

  • Track campaign performance and recommend improvements based on results.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and national press and coordinate coverage of CMA events and initiatives.


LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION
  • Partner with CMA leadership to establish annual event, membership, and marketing priorities.

  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Coordinate with consultants, vendors, speakers, volunteers, and board members.

  • Represent CMA professionally with members, sponsors, elected officials, and industry partners.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Event Management, Business, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in event management, membership engagement, marketing, association management, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience managing high-profile events and cultivating professional relationships.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM or association management software, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, and social media.

  • Experience working with trade associations, nonprofits, or membership organizations is strongly preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary Range $90,000-$115,000, depending on qualifications and experience
