COLORADO MINING ASSOCIATION ELECTS OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

Denver, CO – James “Jim” Mattern, President & General Manager, Trapper Mining, Inc., is the new Chairman of the Colorado Mining Association (CMA). He succeeds outgoing chairman Fred Menzer, who completed his second term as chairman and was re-elected to a three year term at the CMA annual membership meeting.

A member of the Board of Directors since 2010, Mattern manages the award winning Trapper coal mine near Craig in Moffat County, the state’s second leading surface coal producer.   The mine has received numerous awards for outstanding reclamation and safety practices, and was honored in 2002 by the Department of the Interior as one of the top three examples of reclamation in the history of modern surface mining regulation.    The mine also received recognition as the safest mine in America, earning the coveted Sentinels of Safety Award from the Mine Safety & Health Administration.

Bradley “Brad” Cofield, Vice President, Sales and Rentals, Wagner Equipment Company, was named chairman-elect for the 2017-18 year.   Wagner is the licensed equipment dealer for Caterpillar, the largest equipment manufacturer in the world.   Cofield has served on the CMA Board of Directors since 2011 and is leading member outreach efforts through the CMA Sustaining Member Vendor Advisory Council.

Also joining the Board of Directors is Richard Kimball, Senior Vice President, Marsh USA.   Kimball serves as head of the Mining, Metals & Minerals Industry Practice Group for Marsh, a leading insurance broker and risk advisor.   He is also the Chairman of the 118th National Western Mining Conference & Exhibition.

The annual meeting took place on March 22 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver during the CMA’s 118th National Western Mining Conference & Exhibition.    CMA is an industry organization founded in 1876 whose more than 900 members include the producers of coal, metals and other minerals, equipment manufacturers and other service providers throughout Colorado and the west.
