Urge Your Lawmaker To Vote NO on SB 252; Stop the Mandate for High Cost Power

ATTENTION CMA MEMBERS!  Join CMA, Colorado electricity consumers and businesses in the fight against the outrageous power mandate!

The enclosed talking points (2 documents) have been shared with us by Tri-State and the Colorado Rural Electric Association for use in our fight against SB 252 which increases the renewable energy standard for Tri-state and Intermountain REA to 25%.  That is a 150% increase that they will be required to meet in six short years!  The cost to these utilities is tremendous — potentially in the billions of dollars considering the energy resources themselves as well as additional transmission lines and natural gas pipelines to back the intermittent power.  The additional costs must be borne by the utilities up front and will be passed on to their rural customers.   Needless to say, this will be a tremendous set-back to Colorado’s fragile economy.

THE BILL WILL BE HEARD IN THE SENATE STATE, VETERAN’S AND MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE MONDAY, APRIL 8 AT 1:30 PM.   This is an effort by proponents to rush this through the legislature with minimum debate and public scrutiny, so it is important that they hear from you!
