TRAPPER EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES

April 22, 2007 - 8:42 AM

Hundreds of local citizens enjoyed a pancake, scrambled egg, and ham breakfast cooked and served by Trapper employees in the main shop.

KRAI FM local radio station broadcast their morning show form Trapper Mine, enhancing community knowledge and involvement

Manned educational booths stressed the importance of mining in our everyday lives.

Columnian Sharp-Tailed Grouse Recovery Program

The highlight for many Earth Day participants was the early morning viewing of strutting Sharp-tailed grouse. Thanks to successful reclamation efforts by Trapper and other coal mining companies in Northwest Colorado, Sharp-tailed grouse numbers are on the increase. The diversity found on reclaimed lands is perfect habitat for the Sharp-tailed Grouse to breed and raise their young.

Trapper’s participation in an in-depth study of the Sharp-tailed Grouse conducted by the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the University of Idaho included banding of the Sharp-tailed Grouse to study migration and feeding habits.
